The Tropical
Storms is a five week development program of the Forest Lakes Hurricanes
Swim Team (FLST). It is designed to be an introduction to the competitive swim
team. This program will provide the basics of competitive swim strokes. This program
is not a substitute for swim lessons.
The FLST
Tropical Storms program is for all swimmers of at least age 4 years by June 1
of the swim season. We accept all swimmers from age 4-6 years that need
additional time to master the requirements to be upgraded to a HURRICANE. That
basic requirement is to be age 5 by June 1 of the swim summer and be able to
swim one length of the pool (25 meters) unassisted and nonstop in a maximum of
2 minutes.
It is
possible for swimmers to begin as Tropical Storms in June and be upgraded to
Hurricanes. The swimmer must pass the stated swim test. These decisions are
made by the lead coach in consultation with the head coach and the swimmers
parents. Details of opportunity to “Swim Up” will be communicated during the
first week of practice. Swimmers may only move to Hurricanes if space is
available.
Tropical Storms practices are scheduled to begin Monday, June 18, 2012.
Practices are tentatively
planned for Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 12 noon to 12:45pm
