FLST Tropical Storms program    Last update 4/26/2012 1:49 PM

The Tropical Storms is a five week development program of the Forest Lakes Hurricanes Swim Team (FLST). It is designed to be an introduction to the competitive swim team. This program will provide the basics of competitive swim strokes. This program is not a substitute for swim lessons.

The FLST Tropical Storms program is for all swimmers of at least age 4 years by June 1 of the swim season. We accept all swimmers from age 4-6 years that need additional time to master the requirements to be upgraded to a HURRICANE. That basic requirement is to be age 5 by June 1 of the swim summer and be able to swim one length of the pool (25 meters) unassisted and nonstop in a maximum of 2 minutes.

It is possible for swimmers to begin as Tropical Storms in June and be upgraded to Hurricanes. The swimmer must pass the stated swim test. These decisions are made by the lead coach in consultation with the head coach and the swimmers parents. Details of opportunity to “Swim Up” will be communicated during the first week of practice. Swimmers may only move to Hurricanes if space is available.

Tropical Storms practices are scheduled to begin Monday, June 18, 2012.

Practices are tentatively planned for Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 12 noon to 12:45pm

Swimmer Eligibility

Participation on the FLST Tropical Storms is restricted to Forest Lake residents and FLCA members in good standing. The FLST will screen registrants for compliance.

After the season begins, Swim Team members who move outside of Forest Lakes and are no longer FLCA members but wish to complete the current season with Forest Lakes, may do so under the following conditions: A prorated guest fee of $3.00/day for each day of practice and swim meet scheduled for the remainder of the season will be charged and paid directly to FLCA prior to continued participation by the swimmer. A one-time payment by check made out to FLCA is required.

Members who meet the above eligibility requirements of FLCA and the JSL shall be eligible for membership in FLST upon completion of the FLST Tropical Storm Registration and payment of fees set by the FLST EB, and agreement by each swimmer and parent to comply with and be subject to all applicable obligations.
